Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council recognises it has a significant role in eradicating unlawful discrimination and in the promotion of equality and diversity.

The Corporate Equality and Diversity Policy and Plan sets out our overall policy and plan. This is supported by our specific policies in relation to race, diversity and gender.

In addition, the council is working towards the achievement of the new equality framework for local government which was introduced in March 2009 as a tool to enable local authorities to maintain disability, gender and race equality under council policy and practice at all levels. It recognises the importance of fair treatment and equal access to council services and employment.

The council self-assessed its achievement of level 3 of the old equality standard for local government during 2008 and this will form the basis of future achievement of the new equality framework.
