Landscape Character Assessment - 2017

Overview

In 2017 a Landscape Character Assessment was prepared as an update to the 2006 study. The updated Landscape Character Assessment assesses and divides the borough into ten landscape character areas based on their physical, cultural, natural and perceptual characteristics. Fourteen of the larger settlements have been described and evaluated (the borough’s urban areas and key rural centres).

A Landscape Sensitivity Study was also prepared to provide context for policies and proposals within the emerging Local Plan, in particular in relation to built development. The information within each assessment can be used to identify key sensitivities in each assessment area, and to achieve best integration of built development in each area.
