Elections held in the borough

About Borough Council elections

Electoral Services also administers all national and local elections held in the borough. This includes Parliamentary, Borough Council, European and Parish and Town Council Elections, as well as any referenda and by-elections that can occur at any time.

Our borough is divided into 16 wards for election purposes, returning a total of 34 councillors.

The last local election was held in May 2015 when elections for all seats on the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council were held.

The term of office for a Borough Councillor is four years.

The next Borough Council elections will be held in 2019.

Referendum notice

The Local Government Act 2000 - The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions & Directions) (England) Regulations 2000 provides for a referendum to be held to decide whether or not the council should have an elected mayor. A referendum would be called if at least five percent of the local government electors for the area petition the authority.
