Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council

Equality and diversity

Introduction

Equality framework for local government achievingHinckley and Bosworth Borough Council values and celebrates diversity. It is essential to appreciate the different contributions, perspectives and experiences of people in our community.

We recognise that we have a significant role in getting rid of unlawful discrimination and in promoting equality and diversity.

We also recognise that not everyone's experience is equal and there are many forms of discrimination which affect people’s lives. We know that some individuals or groups of people generally experience more discrimination than others.

This discrimination can be on the basis of:

  • Ethnic group (race)
  • Gender
  • Gender reassignment
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Age
  • Religion

We know that people can also be excluded through class, poverty and other factors such as maternity and pregnancy, marital status, poor health, education. These issues are addressed through our work on social inclusion and equality and diversity.

We are a member of the LeicesterShire Equalities Forum which is made up of councils, primary care trusts, the Leicesteshire Constabulary, Her Majesty's Prison Service and organisations in the voluntary sector. Find out more about the forum

In August 2010, the seven district and borough councils of Leicestershire came together to form The Leicestershire District Councils Equality and Diversity Partnership. Find out more about the partnership.
