About sheltered housing

Good, comfortable living conditions where tenants live independently in their own homes

sheltered housing

Tenants enjoy independent living with the comfort and security of knowing there is someone available to call in the event of an emergency. We have 11 sheltered and supported schemes that employ scheme managers and support officers.

Each individual home and communal building is linked to a two-way communication intercom system, which can be activated by a pull cord or by a personal pendant worn discreetly. This allows staff to speak to you directly in your home via the intercom. You can be secure in the knowledge that should you fall ill or have an accident, an experienced member of staff is available to receive an alert for help 24 hours a day. Either the Scheme manager or the control centre staff will raise the appropriate help, be it a family member, a doctor, the fire service or a paramedic.  An officer is also on standby 24 hours a day to respond to an incident should family and friends not be available to check welfare and offer reassurance.

Further information can be found on Sheltered and supported housing (leicestershire.gov.uk)

Each scheme enjoys a range of social activities which is very much led by tenants and their interests. These range from movie nights and canal boat trips, to mystery tours and takeaway suppers.

There is also opportunities for tenant participation, which is about the housing service and tenants working together, sharing ideas to shape and deliver a service that reflects tenants’ needs.
