Discounts for health reasons

People providing care at home

A 25% discount may apply if a person lives in the same property as someone they are caring for.

You are not entitled to this discount if you are caring for your spouse or partner or your son or daughter who is under 18 years old.

The person you are caring for must be in receipt of one of the benefits in order to qualify:

  • Attendance allowance at the higher rate
  • Highest or middle rate of the care component of the disability living allowance or the standard or enhanced rate of the daily living component of personal independence payment
  • Increased rate of disablement pension
  • Increase in a constant attendance allowance

We would need to see the documentation from the Department of Work and Pensions to verify this.

The person providing care should do so for more than 35 hours per week.

If there are three adults in the property and two of the adults are providing care, then both adults will need to complete separate application forms.

A 25% discount would be applied if there are two adults in the property and the carer discount is applied.

A 50% discount would be applied if there are two adults in the property and one adult is granted a severe mental impairment discount and the other adult has the carer discount applied.
