When a landlord can appeal
Help for landlords
A landlord can appeal but has fewer rights of appeal than their tenants. A landlord may appeal against the following:
- A decision not to pay housing benefit directly to the landlord
- If we have asked the landlord to repay overpaid benefit
However, a landlord cannot appeal on behalf of their tenant about the amount of rent we pay them.
If you would like to appeal against a decision made on your tenants benefit claim for one of the above reasons, please complete the appeal form.
Appeal the decision
When you appeal a decision, we will ask for:
- Your tenants benefits claim reference number
- Your contact details
- The address your appeal relates to
- Details of your appeal
- The date of your tenants decision letter (you must appeal a decision within one calendar month)
- Your reason for appealing
- Any supporting evidence (you can upload this evidence in the online form)
You can appeal your decision online:

Alternatively, complete our benefits contact form to request a paper application form which you can complete and return to us.
