Local Green Space Designation

The draft National Planning Policy Framework includes a proposal for areas of green space that are considered to be of particular importance to local communities to be given protection consistent with that for Green Belts. A qualifying area will be called a Local Green Space.

To be designated a Local Green Space, sites must meet the following criteria:

• Will be in reasonably close proximity to a centre of population
• Is demonstrably special to a local community and holds particular local significance 
• Is local in character and is not an extensive tract of land

The Borough Council is requesting suggestions for sites to be designated as a Local Green Space. All sites suggested should meet the above criteria.

All sites suggested will be assessed in line with the detailed methodology identified in a paper called "Green Space in Leicester and Leicestershire" which is currently being prepared by Leicestershire County Council to ensure that detail and consistency is maintained across the county.

It should be noted that whilst all nominated sites will be assessed by Planning Policy Officers for their suitability as a Local Green Space, not all sites will meet the criteria.

Should you wish to nominate a site for designation, please complete a Site Suggestion Proforma for each individual site suggested. Completed proformas should be returned to the Policy & Regeneration Team, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, Argents Mead, Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 1BZ, or by email to ldf@hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk, no later than 24 February 2012.

Suitable sites which meet the qualifying criteria will be designated within the Site Allocations and Generic Development Control Policies Development Plan Document which will be subject to consultation in Summer 2012.
