A few frequently asked questions are listed below together with answers and reasons for those 'seemingly unnecessary' regulations.

Why do I have to pay for parking?

In addition to raising income to pay for the maintenance of existing and new car parks, charges also have to be made to ensure there is adequate turnover of parking spaces. If the council didn't charge the cost of maintenance would fall to Council Tax payers and visitors would make no contribution.

Why don't you provide change machines?

Change machines would be a target for theft. The very nature of the machines requires that they be full of cash. Ticket machines on the other hand can be emptied on a daily basis, ensuring that no cash is left in them overnight.

Why can't I pick someone up or drop someone off in the car parks?

You can, but you must ensure that you comply with the parking regulations by stopping in a marked bay and purchasing a parking ticket. If casual setting down and picking up were to be allowed, congestion problems would be created, causing delays and frustration for other car park users.

Why should I put my ticket onto the windscreen?

If the ticket is left on the dashboard it can turn over when the car door is closed. If displayed on a side window and it falls off it will disappear from view. Tickets on the front windscreen can easily be seen even when they fall off and the ticket's adhesive is designed not to leave a residue on clean glass.

May I transfer my ticket?

Tickets are NOT transferable between car parks. Please remember that your ticket carries identification of your vehicle.

Can I leave my dog in my car?

In warm and sunny weather NEVER leave an animal in your car. Cars become ovens in warm weather. DOGS DIE IN HOT CARS. Failure to follow this advice could lead to the death of your animal and prosecution from the RSPCA.

Do I have to pay to park my motorcycle in a council car park?

The parking of motorcycles in Hinckley and Bosworth borough is free of charge. The user should ensure that the motorcycle is either correctly parked within a motorcycle or standard bay. There are a number of secure locking points available for users to lock their motorcycles too. They are situated at Church Walk, St Marys and Stockwell Head

Motorhomes

• Height barriers are 2.1m. There are only two car parks which do not have height barriers -  the bus station and the rear of Castle Street.
• Should a vehicle take up to two bays then two pay and display tickets must be purchased
• No facilities are provided for waste, but public toilets are situated within the town centre at St Marys Road.
• No specific spaces marked for motorhomes and/or caravans
• Overnight parking is only available in the bus station car park
• The only restrictions at entracnce/exit are height barriers
