Flooding

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's Environmental Health Service can provide information and advice in response to flooding queries.

A leaflet on responsibilities regarding flooding and sandbags can be downloaded. The information contained here will hopefully answer your questions. In general if:

Flooding is from sewers contact Severn Trent Water on 0800 783 4444. To assist them please have your postcode ready and record the incident number given to you. This enables you to track your enquiry.

Flooding from roads contact Leicestershire County Council Highways on 0800 62 62 03. The problem may be related to the capacity of STW sewers serving the road drains.

Flooding from main rivers e.g. Anker, Sene, contact the Environment Agency Floodline 0845 988 1188. Prior warnings of flooding from main rivers can be provided by email, text message by registering with the EA via the floodline number.

Flooding from ordinary rivers or streams. It is the riparian owners responsibility to ensure that a watercourse is not obstructed. The Borough Council has powers under the Land Drainage Act 1991 which it can use to enforce this requirement. It also has discretionary powers to carry out works to improve watercourses or reduce the effect or flooding.
