Beacon Status
The council, in partnership with the police, has won a prestigious national award for its excellent practice in managing the night-time economy. This is the second time it has gained Beacon status: the council received an award in 2008, in partnership with Leicester City Council, for its excellent practice in reducing re-offending in the borough. This award was recognition for the positive results achieved through effective offender management, by providing positive opportunities for offenders. The Beacon scheme is highly regarded for recognising excellence in local government. In shortlisting the council, the Government's Beacon Status assessors have praised the campaign for achieving many of the aims that were identified as important to local people. Being awarded Beacon status again highlights how we, as a relatively small authority with limited resources, can 'punch above our weight' to achieve excellent results for our community. Links:
