Recycling Sites

The below attached file is an A to Z list of recycling sites for paper, cardboard, glass bottles, aluminium/steel cans, textiles, drinks cartons (such as Tetra Pak type cartons) and also plastic bottles throughout this borough. Please remember that any recycling banks at the schools and colleges will only have access during their opening times. This will vary from school to school and some will have full closure periods during the summer holidays.

Latest information:

July 2010: Co-operative Store Car Park, Hill Street, Hinckley - due to refurbishment of the store and major drainage works to the car park all the recycling banks have been taken off site temporarily.  Banks will return as soon as the works are completed.

Nearest alternative site for your cans, glass bottles/jars and plastic bottles is St Mary's Road car park (near the church).

Drinks cartons can be recycled at:

  • Asda, Barwell Lane, Hinckley
  • Morrisons, off Perimeter Road, Hinckley
  • Tesco, Hawley Road, Hinckley
  • Hastings Arms, Atkins Way, Burbage

An alternative for textiles and shoes is to take them to a charity shop of your choice.

March - July 2010:  The recycling banks on the Stanley Street car park in Barwell have been moved to the opposite end of the car park to allow the contractors working on the new Barwell community centre to complete the works on the boundary fencing etc.

General Information:

If you notice any problems, such as an overflowing recycling banks, and would like to let us know then please call the helpline on 01455 238141 or email streetscene@hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk

Recycling sites operated by the Borough Council are for the recycling of household waste only. It is an offence to deposit waste arising from shops, offices or businesses etc at these sites, even for recycling.

You are also able to search for recycling sites using a national database. Simply type in your chosen postcode.

Beverage Cartons (Tetrapak type) - Each year, UK beverage carton manufacturers produce 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice, sauces and other liquid food/drinks. This equates to around 2.3 kg of cartons per household which could be recycled instead of thrown in the rubbish bin. Cartons are made from a mixture of cardboard and plastic. This mix of materials means they cannot be recycled with cardboard, or with plastic, they have to be recycled separately.

In response, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is working with Tetra Pak and the carton industry body ACE UK (Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment) and have established carton collection points at key recycling locations for resident to take their empty cartons to be recycled.

Once collected, the cartons can be taken away to be baled and transported to a recycling mill. They can be recycled into a number of different products, ranging from plasterboard liner to high-strength paper bags and envelopes.
