Leicester's Bardi Wind Orchestra has been making music for almost 30 years and has raised thousands of pounds for both national and local charities at their annual high profile De Montfort Hall summer concerts. Under the baton of Music Director David Calow, the Bardi Wind Orchestra will be performing a 'Proms in the Park' concert at Hollycroft Park including a feast of well-known music, including 1940s classics White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll meet again, music of the Beatles, an ABBA medley and children's movie The Incredibles.
Vocal soloists Jenny Saunders and David Morris will also be joining the Orchestra in well-known standards such as You’ll never walk alone, I dreamed a dream and Nessun Dorma. The concert ends in a flag waving style with traditional Last Night of the Proms items including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory. (Eco friendly Union Jack flags have been purchased).
Gates open at 5pm for a 6pm start. There will be a half an hour interval where tea/coffee or an ice cream can be purchased. We are pleased to have the Bond Street distillery at all our jubilee events, where you can purchase gin, wine or beer. You are welcome to bring your own picnic and drinks, we would encourage any alcohol to be drunk responsibly. The concert will finish at 8:30pm.
The event is free to attend, and no booking is necessary, however, capacity is limited in the auditorium area and will be on a first come first served basis. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept in a lead, please pick up after your dog. Please queue to enter the auditorium from the gate entrance off Hollycroft just before Westray Drive, entry into the auditorium from other gates is not possible.
The park car park will be closed all day on 2 June and will not be available for public use. Parking for blue badge holders only will be available at the park via the gates off Hollycroft. We recommend that people park in town centre car parks and walk to the event rather than using residential street parking. There will be temporary no waiting or loading restrictions in place on Westray Drive from 3pm on the day of the event.
Event stewards will be on hand to ensure safety. We politely ask you to take any litter away with you or dispose of in an appropriate bin. Hand sanitising stations will be available during the event. There will be portable toilets and handwashing facilities on site and the toilets at the pavilion will be open for the evening too. We ask that if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 to follow the current government guidelines.
