Emergency planning

Preparing for emergencies

Emergencies can happen anywhere at any time, often leaving communities devastated and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council has the duty under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to ensure that when an emergency does happen, we are prepared to respond to support the communities affected.

We achieve our obligations by actively engaging with the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Local Resilience Forum. We do this through the Resilience Partnership Team, where dedicated emergency management officers work with a range of partner organisations, such as the Leicestershire Police, Fire and Rescue service, NHS health organisations and many more, to ensure that there is a coordinated approach to protecting the communities of Hinckley and Bosworth.

The types of emergencies that have been identified as having the greatest risk across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland include:

  • Human influenza pandemic
  • Flooding from rivers and streams
  • Accidents involving the transport of hazardous materials
  • Flooding from surface run off
  • Extreme weather, hot and cold
  • Fuel disruptions
