How to make a homeless application
To make a homeless application you can either:
- Call 01455 238141 and ask to speak to a member of the Housing Options Team
- Attend one of the drop-in surgeries
Please note, there is no downloadable application form or an online form that can be completed.
If you find yourself immediately homeless in an emergency situation, please contact the 'out of hours' service on 01455 251137.
If you are likely to lose your home in the next 56 days the council will take an application from you, carry out an assessment of your housing needs and, if you are eligible, offer you some help to try and stop you from becoming homeless. Your case worker, based on the information you provide within the housing options interview, will agree some reasonable steps with you which will then be added to your personal housing plan.

Stage two - The prevention stage
To take reasonable steps to help the applicant from losing accommodation. Your case worker will talk to you and agree what ‘reasonable steps’ need to be taken to help you, these steps will be agreed within a Personal Housing Plan
- Stage three – The relief of homelessness stage
If stage two fails then to take reasonable steps to help the applicant find somewhere else to live. Your case worker will assist you to secure accommodation and, if you meet certain criteria, may place you in emergency housing
- Stage four
If stage three fails then duty is owed for those in priority need and not intentionally homeless
