What financial help is available?
We can offer financial help through the prevention loan scheme to help people access private rented accommodation.
Depending on your circumstances, we could offer financial assistance with:
- A month's rent in advance
- A deposit of up to £500
- Assistance with clearing rent arrears
Any property needs to be affordable and suitable for your needs. Payment will need to be made directly to your landlord and not yourself. Do not sign a tenancy agreement without first agreeing this with your Options Officer as it won't be paid retrospectively. This is a loan which will need to be paid back at a later date. It will be counted as a debt should you apply on the housing register.
The council also offer a cashless bond scheme, which gives landlords a guarantee to cover any costs (up to £500) incurred from a tenancy within the first 12 months. This is a guarantee instead of paying a bond up front.
