Schemes funded in 2017

This year's successful projects are as follows:

  • Barlestone Parish Council - £2,651 for improvements to ball court and the installation of disability friendly entrance barriers
  • Barwell Parish Council - £6,803 for new safety surfacing for play area
  • Barwell Parish Council - £1,560 for new flooring for 3 x public toilets on Shilton Road, Barwell
  • Barwell Parish Council - £3,637 for the installation of play area fencing around the play area at Radford Park, Barwell
  • Burbage Parish Council - £12,000 for the refurbishment of Hinckley Road pavilion including repainting, new heating system, new showers and the installation of a new connecting footpath
  • Kirkby Grange Village Association (Desford) - £767 for the purchase of a defibrillator for the retirement village of Kirkby Grange
  • Desford Parish Council - £2,309 for the supply and installation of a new village map and information board at the village library, a new noticeboard at the cemetery and new bike racks and a dog tether at the post office
  • Sport in Desford - £2,968 for improving the drainage and reseeding the football pitch, improvements to the referee’s room and new goal posts
  • The Desford Tapestry Group - £773 for equipment to assist with the production of a tapestry depicting the history and life of Desford district, to be carried out by the local community
  • Age UK Earl Shilton - £9,918 for the purchase of a new minibus for transporting older people to services and facilities within the area
  • Groby Parish Council - £6,000 for the installation of a children’s assault course at the Queen Elizabeth 90th park
  • Higham-on-the-Hill Parish Council - £3,553 for the installation of new safety surfacing for the play area at King George V recreation ground
  • Market Bosworth Parish Council - £2,790 for the redesign and refurbishment of the Memorial Gardens as a community space to remember those who lost their lives in both world wars
  • St Peter’s Copt Oak P.C.C (Markfield) - £2,000 fo repairs to the gable ends and coping stones to the church to help finish extensive repairs carried out in 2016
  • Nailstone Parish Council - £5,926 for the installation of village signs, noticeboards and benches within Nailstone conservation area
  • Newbold Verdon Parish Council - £1,962 for the installation of further play equipment aimed at the toddler age group at the Dragon Lane recreation ground
  • Shackerstone Parish Council - £12,000 for the purchasing of land and property from the Crown Estate within Shackerstone Parish:  Shackerstone Village Hall, cemetery extension land, land at Poplar Terrace, play areas at Odstone and Shackerstone and the village green at Shackerstone
  • Sibson District Church Council (Sheepy) - £876 for the installation of 8 x low level lights along the driveway to the church to improve visibility to the church door
  • Sheepy Parish Council - £4,800 to improve the link path from the main road in Sheepy Magna to the pathway around the glade on the playing fields, to allow access for disabled users
  • Sheepy Parish Council - £1,798 for the purchase of defibrillators for 3 villages within the Parish of Sheepy
  • Sheepy District Church Council - £4,526 for the installation of a sound system to the church building to improve the acoustics and for the benefit of the hard of hearing
  • Stanton-under-Bardon Parish Council - £4,294 for the provision of a new slide and the replacement of the play area gates at village recreation ground
  • Stanton-under-Bardon Village Hall Trust - £160 for additional furniture for the village hall
  • Stoke Golding Parish Council - £5,938 for the replacement of unsafe roundabout with a new inclusive roundabout for use by disabled and able bodied users.
  • Dadlington Village Hall Committee (Sutton Cheney) - £12,000 for the extension of Dadlington village hall to increase floor space and to fit bi-fold doors opening onto village green which will allow the attachment of a marquee for events
  • Twycross Parish Council - £6,900 for the purchase of land (play area and memorial site) from the Crown Estate with Twycross Parish
  • Naturespot (Various parishes) - £2,160 for the setting up of a parish web page for twenty of the Hinckley and Bosworth Parish areas, to log and record the wildlife found in each parish area
  • Witherley Parish Council - £4,980 for the resurfacing of a grass area to create a hard standing parking area for visitors to the church and community facility in Fenny Drayton

The panel felt the following schemes met the criteria of the scheme sufficiently to be considered for funding of £38,013 if further funds were made available. These schemes remain within the £12,000 per parish limit and have scored under 58.5 against the scoring criteria for the scheme. (Applications are set out in alphabetical order).

  • Bagworth and Thornton Parish Council - £5,370 for the installation of 2 x speed activation signs at Station Road, Bagworth and Main Street, Thornton
  • Barlestone Parish Council - £1,899 for the installation of seating and new planters in the area known as the Roundhouse in the centre of Barlestone
  • Cadeby Parish Council - £2,000 for improvements to the interior of the church hall including decorating and the installation of storage cupboards and the supply of exhibition boards for interpreting the story of Cadeby
  • Carlton Parish Council - £324 for the refurbishment of former telephone box used to house leaflet rack, noticeboard and community defibrillator
  • Carlton Parish Council - £108 for the laying of a hedge at Carlton Parish Cemetery to improve security and to benefit wildlife
  • Carlton Parish Council - £297 for the planting of 5 x native oak trees in prominent locations within the village of Carlton
  • Desford in Bloom - £1,469 for the provision of hanging baskets, tools and water butts, to assist with the Desford in Bloom initiative
  • Desford Free Church - £1,302 for the redecoration of rooms including painting and new curtains to improve the facility for community use
  • Desford Rainbows Baby and Toddler Group - £311 for the provision of new floor mats, tough trays and storage boxes at St. Martin’s Church Centre in Desford
  • Earl Shilton in Bloom Volunteers group - £2,082 for the provision of hanging baskets, irrigation system and tools to assist with the Earl Shilton in Bloom initiative
  • Market Bosworth Society - £9,210 for a community archaeological dig to take place at a number of sites within Market Bosworth, to help discover the very early history of the settlement
  • Peckleton Parish Council - £731 to provide community seating at Kirkby Mallory recreation ground and Kirkby Mallory Village Centre
  • Without Walls Christian Fellowship (Stanton-under-Bardon) - £1,635 for repairs and reinstatement of render to the front of the building, and repaint
  • St Margaret’s Parochial Church Council (Stoke Golding) - £2,506 for the renovation of the area to the back of the church to provide a more welcoming community space, to include new carpeting, storage cupboards and the re-routing of the water supply to the outside tap
  • Norton Juxta Twycross Village Institute Committee - £700 for tables and signs to assist with fund raising events to raise money to help run the village Hall
  • Witherley Parish Council - £7,020 for the creation of a section of footpath, within grass area, to improve safety along Kennel Lane in Witherley
