What support is available?
The increased costs of living may impact upon other areas of your life. Money worries can manifest in feelings of embarrassment and shame, with individuals sometimes not knowing where to turn to for advice and support. If you are struggling, there are a range of support and resources from:
- Samaritans - If you are having a difficult time and need someone to talk to without judgement, the Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Call them free on 116 123. For more information, visit Samaritans (samaritans.org)
- Refuge (refuge.org.uk) - Support for women who have experienced domestic abuse. Telephone 0808 2000 247
- Domestic Abuse Outreach service – based at The Hinckley Hub Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Contact on 01455 255746 / 07966 202181 or visit Domestic abuse outreach service
- Mind (mind.org.uk) - Provides information and support for anyone living with a mental health problem, or for their carers. Call Mind on 0300 123 3393
- Silverline (thesilverline.org.uk) - Offers friendship, conversation and support for older people, especially those who may be experiencing feelings of isolation or loneliness. Free 24 hour helpline on 0800 4708090
- Campaign Against Living Miserably - CALM (thecalmzone.net) - CALM offers advice on their website, as well as free and confidential chats with helpline staff 365 days a year. This is especially suited for anyone experiencing anxiety, relationship concerns, health worries, money worries or suicidal thoughts. Call the helpline on 0800 585858
- Turning Point – Substance misuse service for anyone who is affected by drugs or alcohol. Call 0330 3036000
- Feminine hygiene - Morrisons has launched a discreet new service giving out free sanitary products. Go to the store's Customer Services and ask for a package SANDY has left for you. For more information please visit Morrisons gives out free sanitary products (independent.co.uk)
- Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project (LAMP) Independent Mental Health Advocacy – Are you feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to turn to, seeking a formal diagnosis. - The National Gambling Helpline or webchat is available for anyone to call for help and support with regards to harmful gambling. Advisors can discuss options for support and complete a referral into free treatment services if appropriate. The website contains a wealth of information from blocking tools to financial support. We also support young people aged 11 years and over with harmful gambling behaviour, including buying loot boxes and cryptocurrency. - Under eights (free for a £5 annual fee) – If they have swimming lessons, they also get free swimming (or if their parents have a premium membership of £30 they can get four free children on their account)

- Local groups and clubs - Some are free, but some may require an annual membership (£30 to £40 average over many weeks works out low cost), or options to try first few weeks free before purchasing membership for example the Hinckley running club

- (Under fives) free for up to four juniors with an adult with a premium membership (Or £5.35 per child for an hour)
- Free juniors also covers junior gym, active play and bounce, swimming and adventure play
- Green towers (greentowers.co.uk) Hinckley club for young people - £2 annual membership/multiple free activities
- Sport in Desford (sportindesford.org) - Multiple free and low-cost activity programmes for different ages and abilities
- Activities for disabled (sportindesford.org):
- Last Tuesday of the month: 10am to midday
- Second Monday of the month: 10 am to midday
- Relaxed tennis aged six to 16 Friday: 7pm to 8pm, cost £2 per session
