Snap Dragon Children’s Festival returns to Argents Mead for 2026
The popular Snap Dragon Children and Families Festival is back with three fun filled days for all the family in Hinckley's Argents Mead.
The festival takes place from Monday 3 August to Wednesday 5 August, from 11am to 3pm each day, and is free to attend. Each day of the festival features a different theme, and they are:
Monday 3 August – Mythical Magical Moments
Meet Snappy and enjoy a special appearance from dragon empress Saphira. Take part in dragon flow workshops, learn magic school tricks, explore musical instruments in the Rainbow Tent, meet the Fairies of Argents Mead and enjoy storytelling with Tom the Tale Teller.
Tuesday 4 August – Active Hinckley & Bosworth’s Try It Takeover
Have a go at a range of sports and activities, visit the under-fives area in the Rainbow Tent, watch performances from Spartans Kickboxing Academy and Lee Academy of Dance and Drama, and cheer on participants in the annual Mascot Race. A visit from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue is also hoped for, subject to emergency callouts.
Wednesday 5 August – Once Upon a National Play Day
Celebrate the importance of play and reading by coming dressed as your favourite book character. Enjoy poems, raps and beatboxing from Leicester Poet Laureate Mr Shay, relax in the story tent, hear the winning stories from the Borough Council’s Story Writing Competition, and join in with circus skills and role-play activities.
Every day
Enjoy free activities including the giant sandpit, Snappy disco, craft tent, teddy bears’ picnic, giant drawing, garden games and trails. There will also be a book exchange, fancy dress swap shop, fair rides (charges apply), food and craft stalls, community information stands and a calm corner for children with sensory needs. There will also be music from Fosse 107 over the three days.
Cllr Mark Bools, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council, said: “This much-loved festival continues to bring joy to families and children of all ages, offering a wide range of fun activities in a safe and welcoming environment. We understand that family days out can often be costly, which is why I’m proud to say this event is completely free to attend and open to everyone. I hope as many people as possible will come along and have a lot of fun.”
