New council homes approved for former Peggs Close site in Earl Shilton

A major regeneration project that will deliver new council homes and transform the former Peggs Close flats site in Earl Shilton has been given the green light.

Planning permission has now been granted for the redevelopment of the former Peggs Close flats site, paving the way for the construction of high-quality, energy-efficient council homes for local residents.

The council-owned site, which was previously occupied by three blocks of flats dating back to the 1970s, will be transformed into a mixed development of one-bedroom flats and two and three-bedroom family homes designed to meet modern housing needs.

The approval marks a significant milestone in the council's commitment to investing in its housing stock and creating safe, sustainable communities across the borough.

Executive Member for Housing at the Borough Council, Cllr Michael Mullaney said: "This is fantastic news for Earl Shilton and for local families in need of affordable housing. The approval of this regeneration scheme marks a major step forward in bringing new life to a long-standing site and benefiting the local community.

"This new development will provide modern, energy-efficient homes that people can be proud to live in, while helping us meet local housing demand and investing in the future of our communities. We are delighted to see this project move forward and look forward to work starting on site next year."

Following extensive consultation and a thorough review of the site's future, the decision was taken to regenerate the site rather than continue investing in ageing accommodation. All residents were successfully rehoused with support from the council, and the former buildings were subsequently demolished to make way for future development.

Construction is expected to begin in January 2027.
