Free Saturday Parking Boost for Hinckley

Published Thursday, 24 July 2014

TOWN CENTRE trade will be given a boost this autumn with the introduction of free car parking on Saturdays in one of Hinckley’s main car parks.

Starting on 2 August, free car parking will be available in the Lower Bond Street Car Park (opposite the Atkins Building) on Saturdays for a trial period of three months.

The scheme, which is designed to encourage shoppers into Hinckley during the re-development of the town centre, will be reviewed at the end of the trial period.

Council Leader Stuart Bray said:

“This just the latest initiative from the council aimed at boosting trade in the town and follows last year’s cut in car parking charges.

“I am hoping it will encourage people to keep shopping in the town, which has a great range of independent shops as well as an historic market for people to look round."

The trial scheme is also supported by Hinckley BID – Jonathan White, Hinckley BID’s Business Development Manager added:

“We very much welcome this free parking initiative and are sure that both our businesses and their customers will benefit from it.”
