Free parking in Hinckley extended

Published Wednesday, 01 July 2015

TOWN CENTRE trade will be given a further boost with the extension of a free car parking scheme in two of Hinckley’s main car parks on Saturdays.

The trial scheme, which was introduced in August last year, was originally due to come to an end at the end of June but it has been such a success that the Borough Council has decided to extend free parking in the Mount Road and Lower Bond Street car parks every Saturday until 25 July 2015.

The scheme was designed to encourage shoppers into Hinckley during the re-development of the town centre and has proved to be very popular with shoppers.

Executive Member for Town Centres at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Councillor Chris Ladkin said: “The free parking scheme in these key town centre car parks has been very popular with shoppers and retailers alike so we are keen to build on that success as we move into the warmer months.”

“I am hoping it will continue to encourage people to keep shopping in the town, which has a great range of independent shops as well as an historic market for people to look round."

The scheme is also supported by Hinckley BID.  Jonathan White, Hinckley BID’s Business Development Manager, added:  “We thank the Borough Council for extending the free car parking offer and hope it will encourage the community to come out in greater numbers and support Hinckley town centre business.”
