Sharron Davies MBE to officially open new £15m Hinckley Leisure Centre

NEXT month will see the official opening ceremony of the new £15m Hinckley Leisure Centre take place, with one very special sporting guest in attendance to help mark this important occasion within the local community.

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and Places for People Leisure - the company appointed to design, build and run the new centre on behalf of the council for the next 20 years - will welcome Olympic Silver & Double Commonwealth Gold Medallist, Sharron Davies MBE on Thursday 9 June to formally open the flagship facility along with the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, Councillor Richard Allen.  
Members of the public are invited to come along to watch the official opening that will take place at the main entrance at 12.15 on Thursday 9 June, meet Sharron Davies MBE and take a tour of the facility. 
The centre, which opened to the public on time and on budget on 3 May, includes an eight court sports hall, an enhanced gym, a cafe and soft adventure play facility, an eight-lane 25 metre pool, a community learner pool; both of which have moveable floors to ensure the pools are utlised by a wide range of swimmers and a sauna and steam room. The dry sports facilities also include studios and a Group Cycling studio.

Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, Mike Hall, said: “We are delighted to welcome Sharron Davies MBE to the official opening of the new leisure centre. Since its public opening earlier this month, we have received incredible feedback and welcomed thousands of people through the doors. We are proud to provide fantastic opportunities for members of the local community to take part in a number of different sporting and fitness activities through this leisure centre.”

Places for People Leisure currently partners 35 local authorities, managing 113 leisure centres across England. Its sites attract over 30 million visits every year and in the past seven years the award winning organisation has built 13 new leisure facilities.
