Borough celebrates its sporting heroes

ROB BEASLEY, award winning sports writer, best selling author and TV pundit was the special guest at this year's Hinckley and Bosworth Sports and Health Alliance Awards evening.

During the event, Rob spoke about his interviews with famous sports people, especially with Ronaldo in Madrid, to a packed audience of sporting nominees and their supporters.

The award winners were:

  • Sportsperson of the Year – Steve Cokayne (INVICTUS Games)
  • Junior  Sportsperson of the Year – Carys O’Reilly (Swimming)
  • Veteran Of the Year – Arthur Dodgson (Athletics)
  • Matt Hampson Get Busy Living Award – Mark Langeveld (Wheel Chair Tennis)
  • Matt Hampson Get Busy Living Award Junior- Harry Ray Tyrell (Athletics)
  • Club of the Year – Hinckley Water Polo Club
  • Young Volunteer of the Year – Dominic Skeat (Sailing)
  • Coach of the Year – Carl Broomfield (Green Towers FC)
  • Primary School of the Year – Joint Winners Millfield LEAD Academy and Westfield Junior school
  • Secondary School of the Year- Hinckley Academy
  • Adult Volunteer of the Year –  John Denore (Market Bosworth FC)
  • Active Lifestyle Award – Anne and David Platt
  • Active Lifestyle Business Award – Hinckley Leisure Centre (Places for People)
  • Unsung Hero – Denise Larrad 
  • Lifetime Achievement –Robert Harding (Market Bosworth RFC)

Councillor, Maureen Cook, Borough Sporting Champion and Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure said: "We have a depth of amazing talent of all ages, across all sports, in the borough. These awards acknowledge and celebrate the inspirational role all the nominees and winners play. I would like to congratulate them all again for all they do to make such an inspirational sporting borough.”
