A NEW INITIATIVE is being launched this month to encourage people to make better lifestyle choices and improve their health.
As part of Leicestershire and Rutland Sport’s ‘New Year New You’ campaign, the borough council’s physical activity team has got together with health colleagues to organise a series of free health events across the borough to help people to make positive changes to their lifestyle.
Health professionals and physical activity specialists will be available at these sessions to give advice on quitting smoking, alcohol awareness and exercise. There will also be basic health checks on offer to give blood pressure and weight checks.
The sessions are free and are open to everyone, no booking is necessary:
Tuesday 23 January – 11am to 1pm in the Coffee Bar at Sport in Desford
Wednesday 24 January - 9am to 12pm in Market Place, Market Bosworth
Friday 26 January - 9am to 11am in the Britannia Centre in Hinckley
Friday 26 January - 11:30am - 1:30pm in the foyer of Sainsbury’s in Hinckley
Sports Personality of the Year 2017 Unsung Hero Denise Larrad will be taking groups out for a brisk 10 minute walk during these health events, to demonstrate how implementing small changes to your lifestyle can be of great benefit to your health.
Whether someone is going ‘dry’ for January, giving up smoking, aiming to lose a few pounds or trying to be more active, completing the Public Health England ‘One You’ quiz NHS UK will provide the tools to make that change.
Residents can also take advantage of New Year offers at a variety of leisure facilities and group classes across the borough. The offers available are on the Hinckley and Bosworth Sport and Health Alliance website.
The Borough Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Sport and Leisure, Councillor Maureen Cook said: “I would urge anyone to start the year as they mean to go on and make the most of this free opportunity to feel better while getting fitter.”
