To prevent garden waste going into landfill we operate a brown wheeled bin service. By collecting the garden waste separately, it can be diverted from landfill. The garden waste we collect is taken to local farms for composting.

If you do not know your collection day please contact us by telephone or email. Alternatively, you can view and print your recycling and refuse calendar online.

Please note: the collection crews have been instructed to inspect the brown lidded wheeled bins before collecting and not to empty any bins containing unsuitable materials. The brown lidded bins must not be used for anything other than the items listed below.

Suitable items

  • Grass cuttings
  • Flowers
  • Plants
  • Hedge clippings
  • Leaves
  • Bark
  • Twigs and small branches
  • Weeds

All garden waste must be loose.

If your brown lidded bin has details on the lid and front stating that cardboard can be put in the brown lidded wheeled bin, then please ignore this information. The service changed several years ago and now only garden waste is suitable in the brown lidded wheeled bins.

Bin lids

From 2013 the garden waste bins are provided with a brown lid and a black bin base.
