Garden (green waste) recycling service

About the garden waste recycling service

Brown wheeled bin

We operate a garden waste recycling service. Garden waste bins are provided with a brown lid and a black or brown bin base. There are two sizes: 240 litres (standard size) and 140 litres. The garden waste we collect is taken to local farms for composting.

Cost of the service: 2024 to 2025

The cost for this year's garden waste service is £42.50.

This includes 25 collections, one collection every two weeks, except the two weeks of Christmas an New Year.

There are no concessions for charities and customers receiving benefits. There is no discount if you want a smaller bin.

The subscription year runs from 1 June to 31 May

If you're an existing customer and ordered the service in 2023/24 your sticker runs to 31 May 2024.

If you pay by direct debit, we will automatically renew the service for you and take your payment on 1 April. You will receive your sticker by mid-May. If you pay by debit or credit card, you must renew the service every year.

What goes in the garden bin?

The bin is for garden waste only. Find out:

Your garden waste must fit in your bin

You must put all garden waste in your brown bin and the lid must be firmly closed. Extra bags of garden waste cannot be taken because it is unsafe for the crew to stand at the back of the vehicle to empty out bags. Consider purchasing an additional bin if you regularly have additional waste. You can also take your garden waste to the tip: Barwell tip (leicestershire.gov.uk). You cannot put your garden waste into your black lidded bin.

Damaged bins

If you damage the bin and it needs replacing, costs will apply. If the bin needs replacing due to wear and tear, or if we damage the bin, then we replace the bin free of charge. More about lost and damaged bins
