New Youth Cafe for Barwell

Published 29 November 2011

FREE pizza, crafts and an opportunity to have a go at recording street music using state of the art equipment will be on offer to young people in Barwell.

The opening is next week (Wednesday 7 December) to celebrate the launch of a new Youth Cafe.

Aimed at 11-18 year-olds, the Youth Café is a new youth group that will meet every Wednesday evening from 7pm until 8.30pm at St Christopher’s Church Hall in Moore Road, Barwell. Each week a Youth Leader and volunteers will be on hand to provide a range of fun and safe activities aimed at young people.

The idea for the new Youth Café came about after work between the Borough Council’s Barwell Community House, local residents, Barwell Parish Council, the Police, the Youth Service and the Youth Impact Team identified a need for a Youth Group near the Radford Park area of Barwell. Funding from PAYP has enabled the Youth Café to get up and running until at least Easter 2012.

The Youth Offending Service’s IMPACT team’s Street van and Beats mobile will be on hand at the opening event. The vehicles have state of the art music equipment and offer creative activities such as t-shirt printing, nail art, graffiti, bag printing, making beats and stencil making plus free internet access.

Barwell Community House worker Sally Crossfield said: “I’m really pleased that local residents and businesses are behind us and supporting the Youth Café. There is no entrance charge for young people just a charge for any refreshments, making it accessible to all local young people. Everyone aged 11-18 will be made very welcome.”
