Published 8 February 2012

Love is in the air this February as Hinckley and Bosworth Community Partnership launch ‘Love my neighbourhood week’ – a community week of action.

The following press release has been issued on behalf of Hinckley & Bosworth Community Partnership by Leicestershire Police.

Residents across the borough are encouraged to get involved during valentines week, starting on Monday February 13th 2012. Throughout the week representatives from Hinckley police, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Hinckley Fire and Rescue Service will be visiting the following locations to listen to any concerns and offer advice on a range of issues;

  • Monday February 13th – Britannia Centre, Hinckley,  10.30am to 1pm
  • Tuesday February 14th – Woodlands Garden Centre, Stapleton 10am to 2pm
  • Friday February 17th – Twycross Zoo, Twycross, 10am to 2pm

Issues discussed;

  • Concerned about drug dealing in your street
  • Affected by anti-social behaviour
  • Worried about a vulnerable person you may know
  • Concerned about fire safety
  • Interested in home/vehicle security

On both Tuesday and Friday of the week Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service will be on hand to answer any queries in relation to home fire safety advice. Additionally a free anti-tamper number plate fitting service will be available to all motorists who are looking to make their vehicle less susceptible to vehicle fraud.

Through the week, the police will also be promoting ‘Neighbourhood link’, Leicestershire Police’s message delivery service. Staff will be on hand to explain how it works and help people to sign up.

Also anyone living in the borough can take advantage of a special offer on ‘SmartWater’. SmartWater is a forensic liquid which gives your valuables with their own unique forensic code, allowing them to be traced back to you. The police will be able to offer this for a one off fee of £12. Inspector Rich Ward, commander of Hinckley Local Policing Unit said "This is a great event and I would encourage people to get involved and let us know what is going on in their area so that we can work with them to make your neighbourhoods even safer".

Maddy Shellard the Neighbourhood and Anti-Social Behaviour Manager for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said "During the week we hope to hear from residents across the Borough about issues that are affecting them locally. We are also asking residents to think about people they know who live near them who they may consider to be vulnerable in some way".

Steve Robinson-Day, District Manager for the fire service in Hinckley and Bosworth said "During ‘Love My Neighbourhood Week' we want people to think about those around them who may be vulnerable around fire. Experience tells us that those who live alone and are alcohol dependent are at higher risk, and we would urge people to be good neighbours and let us know in confidence at these events so that Fire Officers can carry out free home fire safety checks".
