Issued on behalf of Leicestershire County Council.
The specialist sections for the Leicestershire route of the Friends Life Women's Tour cycle race have now been announced.
The elite cyclists will battle to become Strava's Queen of the Mountains at Kilworth and the Yodel Direct Sprint champion in Lutterworth when the competition comes to the county in May.
The world-class field of sportswomen are now completing their final preparations before they come to Leicestershire to compete in the first ever Women's Tour, which is also the first elite women's cycling race held over several days in Britain.
The second stage of the tour starts in Hinckley's Market Place at 11am on Thursday 8 May. The elite field will then cover 118.5 kilometres passing through Enderby, Cosby, Broughton Astley and Lutterworth before crossing into Northamptonshire on its way to the stage finish in Bedford.
Leicestershire's Lucy Garner, the double junior World road-race champion who will lead a young GB national team, says she is relishing getting to grips with the specialist sections through her home county.
"I can't wait to race in the UK, particularly around roads so close to my home. The route looks like it could suit me and it would be great to win a stage on home ground. I'm looking forward to wearing the Great Britain colours in front of a home crowd too - I think that will feel pretty special."
To celebrate the Women's Tour coming to the county, the LeicesterShire Sustainable Travel Challenge is giving away exclusive tour prizes for anyone who logs cycling miles from 24 April until the start of the event.
Peter Osborne, the county council's cabinet member for transport, said:
"I know that many people are very following the Women's Tour with great interest. I hope that the latest announcement of the location of these special stages will bring even more people out to support this prestigious event.
While this will be a fantastic opportunity to glimpse some of the world's top cyclists, we hope that it will also inspire others to get on their bikes. As an added incentive they will have the chance to win exclusive Women's Tour prizes if they log their progress on either the LeicesterShire Sustainable Travel Challenge app or website."
Karen Mason, sports development manager at Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said:
"Hinckley is delighted to be hosting the start of the second stage. It is a fantastic opportunity to get a glimpse of the World's top female riders. There will be a number of stalls, promotions and displays in the Market Place promoting cycling and local sport from 9.30am on the 8th May so don't miss out and be inspired.
Eleven of the world's top 14 teams are now confirmed for the event, including three-time World champion and London 2012 Gold Medalist Dani King who will compete for Wiggle-Honda ProCycling in the elite event."
Oundle in Northamptonshire will host the start of the tour which takes place over five stages between 7-11 May.
