Following their success in ensuring that Hinckley was the first Town in Leicestershire to have a full Town Centre APP, Hinckley Business Improvement District (BID) is pleased to announce another first for Hinckley Town Centre with the launch of their free-to-use public access Wi-Fi service throughout Hinckley Town Centre complete with integral marketing solutions.

It is an undeniable fact that over the past five years consumer habits have irreversibly changed, and that digital technology is now playing an even greater part in the way we shop and do business. In particular, the growth of the use of mobile technology continues to outstrip all other forms of marketing and communication. Six out of ten people (61%) in the UK now use a mobile device to access the internet, with trends showing that those numbers will certainly increase further. In fact figures on a local level indicate that the BID’s own website (www.hinckleybid.co.uk) which attracts in excess of 5000 visits a month is accessed by 70% of visitors on mobile devices!

The public access Wi-Fi being installed in Hinckley is a state-of-the-art solution provided by local IT specialists, Intalect. This service will provide free public on-line access throughout public spaces to all visitors within the core town centre area. Visitors can come into town in the knowledge they can access free Wi-Fi to allow them to access emails, social media and the internet - to do business or simply to keep in touch with one another.

The solution will also enable the BID to gather the basic data of those using the Wi-Fi, allowing them to monitor visitor profiles, frequency of visits etc. This data can then be used by the system to allow the BID team to push live messages out to the customer via social media, email or SMS (text) - providing details of forthcoming events, promotions or even just to wish regular visitors a ‘Happy Birthday.’ Jonathan White (Hinckley BID Manager) said:

It is vital that towns and cities like Hinckley begin to invest in infrastructure which embraces the growth of digital technology and we are delighted to be one of the first towns in the country to  launch a combined public access Wi-Fi and marketing solution for the benefit of both Visitors and our town centre Businesses.
The Wi-Fi solution is part of the BID’s continued push to embrace the ‘Digital High Street’ and to provide Hinckley Town Centre with a competitive edge over other local town centres.
