Council’s new website improves access to services

Published 6 September 2010

A NEW website that makes it easier for people to access information and services provided by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is being launched this week.

The new website retains the same address (www.hinckley-bosworth.gov.uk ) but has been re-designed to provide a modern look and to ensure that it works much better than the outdated site it replaces.

The decision to replace the site was forced on the council when the company responsible for providing and hosting the previous website decided to stop developing and supporting it this summer.

This gave the council an opportunity to make the new site more accessible for all members of the community, thereby improving access to information and services for everyone.

And by undertaking as much of the work as possible in-house, the council has made a significant saving on the cost of the re-design.

The following improvements have been incorporated into the new site:

  • More visual – more pictures on every page and a better, modern layout
  • Easier to find things - thanks to a new Google search and an improved structure
  • New ‘find your nearest’ feature – the public can find their nearest doctors, dentists, planning applications and all sorts of other council services on a map
  • Residents can subscribe to automatic updates on news, events or anything else that they are interested in thanks to RSS feeds
  • A new improved A-Z of services - includes emergency services, as well as council information
  • More accessible – the new site is fully accessible for people with disabilities. Text and background colours can be changed to suit the requirements of the user
