Guidance on permitted development rights

What this means

As of 1 August 2021, there are changes to use classes and to development requirements for prior notification.

Permitted development rights allow you to extend buildings, change uses and undertake works without applying for planning permission.

Have permitted development rights been removed?

Check whether permitted development rights have been removed from your property. The cost for the service is £65.20.

Permitted development rights enquiry form

Please refer to Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development (England) Order 2015 (legislation.gov.uk) for detailed information about these changes.

The government has made changes to legislation to introduce new permitted development rights. In some cases, you will need to give us prior notification and details, as specified in the legislation, rather than applying for planning permission.

In most cases, we will need to determine whether prior approval is necessary. We will do this when you initially notify us of your change by completing a prior notification form (when you make an application).
