Local Plan 2006 - 2026

View the policies which guide the future development of the borough

Activities in the communityNew planning legislation introduced through the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 required all local planning authorities to produce a new style of Local Plan, called a Local Development Framework (LDF). In 2011, following the introduction of the Localism Act, planning reforms deemed that the term Local Plan would replace Local Development Framework. Consequently the council’s previous references to Local Development Framework (LDF) will be replaced with Local Plan 2006 – 2026.

The Local Plan 2006 – 2026 consists of a series of documents that sets out detailed policies and specific proposals for guiding the future development and use of land within the borough up to 2026. It will guide most day-to-day planning decisions and policies.

The Local Plan 2006 – 2026 documents replaced the policies within the Local Plan 2001.

It is designed to speed up the process, ensure better integration of environmental issues and be more accessible to the public.
