About arts development

Arts Award

The Arts Award for young people is an exciting award scheme set up to recognise the artistic development of young people aged between five and 25. It can be taken at early levels Discover and Explore, or at bronze, silver and gold levels, which are accredited at levels one, two and three on the National Qualifications Framework.

The Arts Award celebrates and rewards the creative progress made by young people and allows them to gain accreditation for their achievements in their chosen art form be it drumming, street dance, theatre, digital photography, ballet, sculpture (and everything else in between). Young people in youth clubs or out of school groups will appreciate the recognition the award offers for their leisure-time activities.

For young people on the way to further and higher education and employment, the award is also designed to enhance their formal record of achievement. Notably the award is also suitable for young people turned off by traditional qualifications whether they have dropped out of education or in the criminal justice system. The award programme also offers young people with special needs the chance to achieve their personal creative ambition.

In order to achieve an award, young people will work with an Arts Award trained advisor who supports them to develop their work and carry out the accreditation.
