New funding to support people who are in financial crisis
About the new fund
The government has announced new funding to support people who are in financial crisis.
This new fund is to:
- Help people cope with a sudden, unexpected expense or loss of income
- Help with longer term financial resilience.
- Help with short fall in housing cost
It is funded by the UK Government and will run from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029, and is a Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payment.
The fund will be administered by Leicestershire County Council from 1 April 2026. The housing payment element of the fund substitutes Discretionary Housing Payment and will continue to be paid by the Leicestershire Partnership.
