Public sector apprenticeship target

Meeting the target

We are committed to meeting the government apprenticeship target. We have in place an apprenticeship, internship and work placement scheme aligned with our strategic priority of 'nurturing and attracting talent' to increase apprenticeships in our workforce.

Below are some of the actions we achieved in supporting apprenticeships:

  • We supported budget for two additional apprentice posts on a rolling basis
  • We will continue to identify apprentice opportunities as part of service workforce planning and a 'grow our own approach' to meeting skills needs
  • We have apprentices in new areas including ICT, Regulatory Compliance, Plastering, HR, Housing, Electrical Installation, Built environment and Design, Finance and Business Administration
  • We pay at least the national living wage for an apprentice's age instead of the lower apprenticeship rate
  • We make sure apprenticeships are considered as viable vacancies and new post options for new and existing staff
  • We support work experience and placement opportunities, working with the Department for Work and Pensions to support those not in education, employment or training (NEET's) to help develop their skills and suitability for apprenticeships in the future
