Council tax - corporate debt policy

Corporate debt policy

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council provides key local services to its customers, citizens and communities.

Through the council tax, we bill £75.5 million annually to meet local services, as well as to fund major organisations such as the County Council, police and fire authorities.

We also bill local businesses £35.5 million annually in business rates.

We bill and collect around £2.4 million annually in miscellaneous income/sundry debts and in excess of £9 million in housing rent.

The council recognises that this money is due from our residents and businesses and we take that responsibility very seriously. However, we also recognise that our collection and debt recovery should be fair to everyone. To ensure this is the case we have developed the corporate debt policy.

The corporate debt policy adopts a global view for customers who have more than one debt to the council. It encourages individual departments to work together to clear the debt efficiently and realistically.
