About the GP Exercise referral scheme
How the scheme works
You will be invited to attend a weekly exercise session at the venue closest to you. Prior to that first session, you will be met at reception and be shown round the centre. The scheme will be explained further and you will be asked to complete the necessary questionnaires. A trained fitness instructor will then design an exercise session for you that is both fun and meets your health requirements.
What happens after 12 weeks?
After 12 weeks you will discuss your progress with the GP Referral Co-ordinator, who will report back to your doctor or practice nurse. If you still require further assistance you may be referred for a further 15 weeks. If you are not referred for a further amount of time you will be given the option of joining the centre to keep exercising. The Fitness Plus membership allows unlimited use of the fitness suite, exercise classes and public swimming. Please note this is only available at Hinckley Leisure Centre.
How to get on the scheme
If you are interested in taking part in regular activity then make an appointment to see your doctor or practice nurse. They will then recommend you to start the scheme if they feel you would benefit from regular exercise.
When you have been recommended to take part, your doctor or practice nurse will send your details on a form to the GP Referral Co-ordinator. It is then your responsibility to contact the co-ordinator to arrange an appointment to meet you before the start of your first session.
