The pay and display system
All of our car parks operate with a pay and display system. A ticket with sufficient time to cover your stay should be purchased either from one of the ticket machines or by using the PayByPhone system.
A ticket with sufficient time to cover your stay should be purchased from one of the ticket machines and attached to the inside of the front windscreen of the parked vehicle. All of our car parks accept coin, debit or credit card and contactless methods of payment, except Trinity Vicarage Road and Druid Street car parks which accept coins only. Our machines take all coins apart from 1p and 2p. We accept all major credit and debit cards. The machines do not give change.
You can now also purchase a digital ticket to park in our pay and display car parks. Digital tickets are linked to vehicle registration numbers and do not need printing. Your payment amount and vehicle details will be electronically visible to our enforcement officers. Each car park has its own location code and tickets are not transferable. Using PayByPhone incurs additional costs of 5p for using the service, 10p for optional reminder texts, and the price of call by your service provider if you call them.
To download the PayByPhone app or to pay online visit PayByPhone (paybyphone.co.uk) or you can call them on 0330 400 7275.
Ticket machine faults
The larger car parks have more than one ticket machine. Therefore, if a machine is faulty you will need to try the other machine. If all machines are faulty, please call the helpline on 07966 201 858.
If you phone out of hours, please leave a brief message telling us:
- Which car park you are on
- Details of your vehicle: make and registration number
- What the problem is
Tickets from other car parks are not transferable.
Our pricing policy aims to discourage the all-day occupation of premium, central area car parks in order to allow a greater turnover of spaces for use by shoppers. Elsewhere throughout the borough, the council will continue to operate a free parking service for the public.
Charges apply between 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday (unless otherwise stated).
Please note the machines do not give change.
Within many of the car parks in Hinckley, Earl Shilton and Barwell we have CCTV cameras which are monitored at the Police Station within Hinckley. These cameras can be moved remotely to look at car parks and the surrounding area in full.
For safety and security purposes all Civil Enforcement officers patrolling our car parks now wear body-worn video cameras.
For further information regarding the use of these cameras please visit Body-worn video operating procedure
