Every week, over six million vapes and pods are disposed of in the UK instead of being recycled. When these items are thrown away into household bins, they can cause dangerous fires when crushed in bin lorries or later at recycling centres.
Suez, a recycling company, reported in 2025 they recorded 670 fires at their UK sites. Over 368 of those fires were caused by batteries or vapes.
