Items we don't collect - black wheeled bin
All items listed as accepted in other bins, for example:
- Food waste
- Garden waste
- Recyclable materials accepted in the blue lidded bin (except items which are too dirty or degraded for recycling and cannot be cleaned with reasonable effort)
Unsuitable items - construction waste:
- Bricks
- Soil
- Rubble
- Ceramics and tiles (roof and bathroom type)
- Turf
- Paving slabs
- Plaster board
The above items are classed as construction waste by both the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Controlled Waste Regulations 1992.
We may be able to collect your items for a fee: other items we collect - get a quote
You will need to make your own arrangements to dispose of these items such as using a local skip company or taking the items to your local recycling and household waste site (leicestershire.gov.uk)
Other common unsuitable items:
- Paint - this can be recycled via Leicestershire County Council at Whetstone recycling and household waste site (leicestershire.gov.uk)
- Electricals and electronic equipment
- All types of liquids waste - cannot be sent to landfill
- Hazardous items such as asbestos, needles, chemicals and petrol
- Long life light bulbs and fluorescent lighting
- Hot ashes
- Loose ashes - when disposing of cool ashes, these should be sealed in a wrapper or bag before placing them in your bin
