Maintaining your caddy

Top tips

Our food waste service is a weekly collection to be presented at your boundary by 7am on the day of your waste collection. To make the most of your food waste service, please take a look at the tips below:

  1. We highly recommend using liners (or a plastic bag) to avoid liquids and mush in the bottom of your internal caddy.
  2. When disposing of hot food, tea bags or coffee grounds, leave them to cool beforehand. This will prevent moisture building up in your internal caddy and reduce the risk of mould and fruit flies.
  3. Rinse out both caddies as regularly as you can. Boiling water with salt or lemon juice will help disinfect the the caddies.
  4. Don’t overfill your internal caddy. Buildup of food waste in the internal caddy will encourage odours.
  5. Remember, your external caddy doesn’t need to be full for our crews to service it. Even if you have a small amount of food waste in your external caddy, it will still be serviced if you present it at your boundary on your collection day.
  6. Make sure that your internal and external caddy are shut at all times. This will stop fruit flies getting in and odours getting out.
  7. If you are consistently filling your external caddy due to the capacity of your household, you can enquire for an additional external caddy through customer services.
