Get your benefit backdated

After you have applied to get benefit backdated

Once we receive all the information from you to make a decision on your backdating request, we will write to you within 28 days explaining our decision. If you are successful your letter will advise when the payment of housing benefit will be made to you or your landlord. If you are awarded backdated council tax support, this will go on your council tax account and a revised bill will be sent out to you confirming the outstanding balance.

What do I do if I do not agree with your decision?

If you disagree with our decision, you can write and ask us to look at your claim again.

You must contact us within one month of the date on the decision letter. You can also phone, or visit us at the council and ask us to explain the decision to you. You can also ask for a written statement of reasons which will show more information about the decision. If you are still not satisfied, you can appeal our decision. Please contact us on the details below and we will give you more information.

If you would like independent advice about your request for backdating of housing benefit and council tax support you can contact Leicestershire Citizens Advice.
