THE popular Snap Dragon Children and Families Festival is back with three fun filled days for all the family in Hinckley's Argents Mead.

The festival takes place from Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 August from 11am to 3pm each day and is free to attend with no booking necessary. Each day of the festival features a different theme with Wednesday celebrating National Play Day, Thursday - Let the games begin and Friday – Kings and Queens.

Everyone can enjoy a traditional day at the seaside each day in the giant sand pit part sponsored by Hinckley BID. There is a chance to meet Snappy, the Festival’s dragon mascot, have your photo taken on our giant deckchair, groove in the Snappy disco, provided by Fosse 107, build a sandcastle, take part in a treasure trail, bug hunting, play in the games garden or just relax in our deckchairs or bring a teddy and enjoy a teddy bear’s picnic at the many tables dotted around the park. Plus enjoy a dedicated craft station which is being looked after by the United Reform Churches.

The themed events for each day are as follows:

  • Wednesday 3 August is National Play Day. Youngsters are invited to bring a swimsuit and splash and enjoy our water slides. Anyone feeling more energetic can ride on a donkey (£2 a ride, cash only, heigh restrictions are in operation and no flip flops). Everyone can laugh along to the free Punch and Judy show, learn to juggle, or plate spin in our free circus workshops, enjoy a story from Tom the Tale Teller in the story telling tent plus lots more
  • Thursday 4 August – Let the games begin. The whole family can have a go at a new sport such as rugby, tennis, football. Try some team building exercises or create your own fun on our obstacle course. Dance in our snappy disco fitness workouts, enjoy yoga with Barefoot Yoga or take part in an accessible sports workshop and try boccia. The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue will be hand on give everyone a tour of a fire engine (unless there is an emergency!) A mascot race will also be taking place
  • Friday 5 August is Kings and Queens Day. This is a great opportunity to get dressed up for the day, join in our fancy dress costume competition (winners announced at 12:30pm), enrol in jousting or run the gauntlet workshops, enjoy a magic show and there will be story telling by Nina Taylor

A Refill water (free) and squash (min charge) station will be available and Snap Dragon t-shirts and water bottles (which can be refilled free throughout the event) can be purchased.

Local charity Baby Basics, a volunteer-led project will also be attending to explain how you could help them or how to get involved. Please go and say hello to this new group in the borough.

Executive Member for Culture at the Borough Council Councillor Keith Nichols said:

In the current climate and with so many families staying home during the summer holiday the Snap Dragon Children and Families Festival offers many fantastic play opportunities for children, young people, families, and friends to come together and have a great time, trying new things and having lots of fun. I hope that as many people as possible can join us at these events and have a fantastic time.
