Park users across the country have voted for Hinckley’s Hollycroft Park as one of their most impressive green spaces in the 2023 People’s Choice Awards – a Top 10 park in the country.
Research shows that for parks to be able to contribute to improvements in health and wellbeing, they must be accessible, well-managed and maintained, and offer something for everyone within the community.
This year, Hollycroft Park was one of 2,216 UK parks and green spaces which met the standard of the Green Flag Award – the international quality standard managed by Keep Britain Tidy which recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.
Now communities have revealed the park is among their top ten favourite Green Flag Award parks in the 2023 People’s Choice Awards, with over 21,000 members of the public casting their vote.
Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Council Councillor Stuart Bray said:
This is fantastic news, thank you to everyone who has voted for Hollycroft Park. To be recognised as one of the top ten favourite parks in the country rightly recognises the amazing contribution of our staff, the Friends of Hollycroft Park and all our volunteers and the visitors who make this park such a great place to visit at the heart of our community.
To be awarded a People’s Choice Award once again is a great accolade. It highlights how important Hollycroft Park is to the local community.
Commenting on the results, Green Flag Award Manager Paul Todd said:
Our parks and green spaces are essential to people’s wellbeing, and we know these free to access places will continue to be vital to communities.
To have achieved this recognition from the public is testament to the tireless work by the parks staff and volunteers to make Hollycroft Park a wonderful place that everyone can enjoy.
Our Green Flag Award winners include some of the country’s best-known and iconic parks as well as community green spaces and university campuses and canals.
We want to congratulate Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council’s green spaces team and the Friends of Hollycroft Park group on their fantastic achievement.
