Council responds to NatWest branch closure

High street bank NatWest has announced it intends to close its Hinckley branch later this year.

NatWest says it plans to close the branch, which is in The Borough in Hinckley, on 17 September. A letter sent to the council blames the increasing use of digital banking for its decision.

Speaking on the closure Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Leader, Cllr Stuart Bray said: “I am extremely disappointed to hear that NatWest has decided to close their Hinckley branch in a couple of months’ time as this will be the loss of yet another high street bank and, of course, local employment.

“It will undoubtedly have a detrimental impact on the residents and businesses of Hinckley and the surrounding who rely on visiting this branch.

“We’re urgently getting in touch with the bank to see if they can help us set up a presence in town. Barclays already runs a popular weekly service at the Atkins Building, and we might be able to offer something similar to NatWest customers looking for in-person banking options in the town.

“We will also work with our partners including the DWP to provide help and advice to NatWest employees at this worrying time.”
