Competition launched to name new food waste trucks
A competition has been launched giving residents the chance to name the council’s new food waste trucks.
The new fleet of trucks arriving are part of Hinckley and Bosworth’s new household waste service set to launch from February / March 2026 onwards.
Residents will then have separate collections for garden waste, recycling, general waste and food waste. The new food waste collection is being fully funded by the government and will be weekly to ensure there are no issues with smells, pests etc.
Every year, over ten million tonnes of food is wasted in the UK. By separating food waste from other household rubbish, it can be sent to special facilities (digesters) that turn it into green energy. This will help power homes and businesses and reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
Executive Member for Waste Services, Cllr Lynda Hodgkins said: “We're asking residents to welcome this new service and have a bit of fun and come up with some creative names for our new waste service trucks.
“This new service will help to stop food waste creating harmful carbon emissions and support our goals of tackling both waste and climate change.
“We’ll be picking nine winning names, and each one will be featured on the front of each truck driving around the borough. Names must have a food waste or recycling theme, and I look forward to reading all the entries.”

The winners will be selected by a panel led by the Mayor of Hinckley and Bosworth, and the competition will close at midnight on 30 September 2025.
