The Atkins Gallery is delighted to present the Underwater Photographer of the Year 2024 Exhibition, showcasing the breathtaking beauty and diversity of life beneath the surface.

This internationally acclaimed competition, based in the UK, celebrates the art of underwater photography and attracts entries from across the globe from oceans and lakes to rivers and swimming pools.

The exhibition is free to visit and opens on Monday 6 October then runs until Friday 7 November.

Atkins Gallery is open Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm), and on Saturday 11 October (2:30pm to 3:30pm), Saturday 18 October (11:30am to 12:30pm) and Saturday 25 October (10:30am to 3:30pm).

The contest features 13 categories, including Macro, Wide Angle, Behaviour, and Wreck photography, alongside four categories dedicated to images taken in British waters. The 2024 winning collection will be on display at Atkins Gallery, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the underwater world through the lens of some of the most talented photographers in the field.

Councillor Mark Bools, Deputy Leader of Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted to welcome this world-class exhibition to Atkins Gallery. The Underwater Photographer of the Year collection is not only visually stunning but also thought-provoking, reminding us of the beauty and fragility of our planet’s aquatic environments. It’s a fantastic opportunity for residents and visitors to experience the wonders of the underwater world right here in Hinckley.”

In addition, music students studying at the North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College Hinckley Campus have been commissioned to create short individual pieces of music to create a custom exhibition soundtrack with the images from the exhibition as their inspiration.

Whether you're a photography enthusiast, nature lover, or simply curious, this exhibition promises to inspire and amaze.
