Council flat closed after Anti-Social complaints

A council flat in Earl Shilton has been closed for three months after neighbours raised concerns over anti-social behaviour.

The Borough Council worked with Leicestershire Police to obtain a closure order on the property after receiving complaints of noise disturbances, strong drug odours, regular police attendances at the property and criminal damage, including smashed windows.

Several residents have reported being frightened of the anti-social behaviour and numerous visitors using the flat.

The order was granted at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Friday (14 November) and served on Monday (17 November) meaning no-one can enter the property for three months.

Closure orders aim to protect other residents living in the neighbourhood by stopping anti-social behaviour taking place in or around a property.

Executive Member for Housing and Community Safety at the Borough Council, Michael Mullaney said: “Our first response is to always work with residents and tenants to find the right support for any issues that are occurring within communities, but we do take formal action when that is not effective. Everyone has the right to live in peace and enjoy their homes without the fear and threat of persistent anti-social behaviour from their neighbours. Anyone affected by anti-social behaviour is advised they do not have to tolerate it. Please contact the ASB team at the council for more advice.”
