Town set to celebrate St George’s Day 2026

Final preparations are now underway to celebrate St George's Day with a special programme of traditional entertainment in Argents Mead, Hinckley town centre.

The event in Argents Mead organised by the Borough Council will take place between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 25 April 2026, offering plenty of free* entertainment and activities for the whole family including:

  • Tom the Tale Teller (10:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm performances)

  • Bakanalia  Morris dancers (10am and 11am performances)

  • Dragon Flow workshop (11:30am)

  • Dragon Empress Saphira Walkround (10:30am, 12:40pm)

  • Snappy the Dragon appearing throughout the day

  • Children's crafts supplied and ran by the United Reformed Church

  • Dragon picture trail

  • Tomahawk throwing

  • Community stalls

  • Children’s face painting (*£2.50pp, ages three and over)

  • Small fairground rides (*cost as advertised on the day)

  • Book Exchange – bring a book or take free book, for adults and children

As in previous years the Hinckley District Scouting Association will also be parading through the town with representatives and flags from groups across the borough. The parade will leave Argents Mead at 1:15pm, cross Church Walk, turning into Castle Street, New Buildings, Leicester Road and into St Peter’s RC Church. Motorists are warned there will be some temporary rolling road closures in these areas to enable the parade to pass safely.

Cllr Mark Bools, Deputy Leader of the Borough Council, said: “The St George’s Day celebrations are a hugely popular event each year. The celebrations offer something for all ages to experience while enjoying the town’s shops and bustling market stalls.

“There is plenty for the kids to do, whatever their interests. There is lots going on and we look forward to seeing you.”
